Research Team

Research Director: Alex Tang (tel: 852 2826 0003), University of Wisconsin (B.Sc.) and Chinese University of HK (M.Phil), is a veteran economist, with 22 years experience of business-oriented research. He spent six years with China Light & Power, during which he was involved in the economic/financial valuation of the Daya Bay Nuclear Plant and the Guangdong Cong Hua Pumped Storage Scheme. Capital Magazine named Mr Tang 'Navigator' for the Japanese Funds in 1997. Mr Tang maintains a high profile in the investment community, as his market strategies and stock picks are often quoted in the media. He coined the term 'R‘Red Chips' in 1992.


Senior Research Analyst: Bonnie Lai (tel: 852 2826 0006) graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a B.Sc in statistics and holds a postgraduate diploma in banking and finance from the City University of Hong Kong. She is a CFA charter holder and has extensive experience in equity research. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, she worked for the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. She covers Hong Kong banking and retail-apparel stocks.


Acting Head of China Research: Belle Liang (tel: 852 2826 0062) has an MBA from the University of Rochester in the US. She has over five years experience in corporate finance, equity research and venture capital, while she was involved in various sectors including consumer, media, telecoms, as well as biochemical. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, she worked for Dairy Farm Group, Credit Suisse First Boston and Hartcourt Capital. She covers the China market.


Deputy Head of China Research: Wendy Huang (tel: 8621 6882 4066) majored in financial accounting, and is a CFA charter holder. She has over six years experience in equity research. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, she worked for Southwest, OCBC, NatWest and BZW Securities, and spent a year’s as credit analyst for ABN AMRO Bank. She covers the China consumer, auto and infrastructure sectors.


Senior Economist: Bob Zhang (tel: 00861 6518 3270) has a master’s of economics degree from Peking University and an MBA from Marburg University in Germany. He has more than eight years equity research experience. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, he worked for BNP Paribas Peregrine as senior economist in charge of China sector research. He was also partially responsible for China macroeconomic research. He also worked for the Ministry of Information Industry and the China Stock Exchange Executive Council for eight years.


Senior Economist: Kent Yau (tel: 852 2826 0004) has a bachelor’s degree in commerce and a master’s degree in economics, both from the University of Toronto. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, he worked as an economist for Bank of East Asia and had held teaching positions in the University of Toronto as well as a number of universities in Hong Kong. He is familiar with the China and Hong Kong economies, as well as their banking sectors.


Research Analyst: Pauline Lau (tel: 852 2826 0007) received an MBA in finance and information technology, and a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing and management from the University of Portland, USA. Prior to joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, she worked as an analyst with Dao Heng Securities for over three years covering industrial and small-cap stocks. She currently also covers industrial and small-cap companies in Hong Kong.


Research Analyst: Lucia Kwong (tel: 2826 0008) has a bachelor of economics degree from the University of Hong Kong and a master of finance degree from the Royal Melbourne University of Technology. She also holds a CFA charter. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, she worked for the Securities and Futures Commission and Swire Properties. She covers the Hong Kong property sector.


Research Analyst: Royce Ren (tel: 8621 6881 7776) graduated from the Shanghai Normal University (BSc.) in 1992, Limburgs Universitair Centrum (MBA) in 2001 and Clark University (MSc. in Finance) in 2002, and passed CFA level I. He has extensive experience in the banking, shipping and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) industries. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, he worked for Standard Chartered Bank, Hyundai Merchant Marine (China) and Unisono (Field Marketing) Shanghai as financial analyst. He covers the China power sector.


Research Analyst: Harry He (tel: 8621 6881 7776) has an MBA degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton concentrating in finance. He also has a bachelor of engineering degree in MIS and a bachelor degree of arts in English from Tianjin University. He has five years experience in industry analysis and investment consulting focusing on China's’s electronics industry. Before joining Core Pacific - Yamaichi, he worked for the China Academy of Electronics Industry Development, the China Multimedia Interactive Corp, the China Center for Information Industry Development and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. He covers the China machinery sector.
